A visit to a Sidrería or Cider House is a great Basque tradition which will provide the visitor with an experience to remember.
Discover San Sebastian will accompany you to a local Sidrería where you will learn how to drink and enjoy cider in the local tradition. Drinking cider Basque style is not as straightforward as you think! A small amount of cider is poured into a narrow glass from a height of around 90 cm or three feet. This serving method aerates the cider which enhances the bouquet and the natural carbonation, and is called “throwing” the Cider.
You then get the chance to enjoy a traditional menu at the Sidrería. The food is great and there is plenty of it. The delicious typical cider house menu consists of; cod omelette, fried cod with green peppers, chargrilled steak followed by cheese with quince and walnuts. And one of the best parts is the unlimited amount of Cider available straight from the barrel!
